Welcome to Wesley!

Are you seeking a space to authentically connect with God? We welcome your whole self – your questions, your missteps, your heart, your joy. Join us for an honest and open faith community.

Wesley has been on campus - just on the edge of grounds - for more than 100 years. It is a CIO (student group), but more than anything else, it is a community for support, challenge, comfort, and risk. It is a place to be and become.

Whether you have been a lifelong churchgoer, a lifelong questioner, or both, you don’t have to leave your questions or doubts at the door. We trust God to be present in those places and in the messiness, thrill, stress, and fun of life at UVA.

Wesley at UVA students worship at various churches throughout Charlottesville including Charlottesville First United Methodist Church and Wesley Memorial.

We trust God’s story of steadfast love and redemption and we pray to understand where and how our own smaller stories fit into God’s. What kind of story is unfolding for you? Where is God calling you and who will you become while at UVA?

Come and see.

A Bit About Our History

All Are Welcome Here.

One of the most important tenants of Wesley is that we are welcoming, inclusive, and affirming of all. This includes all genders, races, and sexual orientations.

We are proud to share that we have welcomed groups, such as the Queer Student Union, when they didn't have a safe space to meet on Grounds. We believe Christ is for everyone, no matter what the church has told you in the past.

Still have questions? We get that.

Here are some answers that might help:

Q: I am not sure what I believe about God. Am I still welcome?

A: Absolutely! College is a time when many students are asking questions about their faith. Whatever your questions or doubts may be, we’d love to walk alongside you on your journey.

Q: What do you mean when you say your are inclusive?

A: In a nutshell: the gospel is for everyone! We are a “love your neighbor” group today, tomorrow and yesterday. No matter your past or present, we will accept you for who you are. This is a place to bring your whole self and lay down your burdens. You are beloved and you have a home with us.
