7:30pm Week 2 of Deborah’s 3-Week Class, “Reading the Sacred”
Meets in the Upper Room (next to Study Camp). Before the first class, take a look at this blog piece, from which I have borrowed the title and this great quote: “The minister’s job in this era is not just to instruct in scriptural literacy but to read the whole world as a sacred text.” That’s what we will be doing together in this small group — looking at the world as a sacred text. We will have some short readings like this but no book or long assignments. The class is intended for deeper reflection and conversation about how we read the texts of our lives “sacredly.”
For this week’s meeting, take a look at this article beforehand. Week 2: We Have a Story to Tell to the Nations – Narrative, family history, the stories we tell ourselves – how does story convey or conceal truth? ; Week 3: What does compassion look like? In a complicated world the compassionate act is not always apparent. How do we discern what’s compassionate and how to go about it? Everyone is welcome to join us for any or all three of the weeks.
Thursday, April 11
6:00pm Dinner and Forum– Free home-cooked dinner in the Foundation dining room! Tonight’s forum will be a sneak peak of Deborah’s Sermon Song Series, which is about to start on 4/21. Tonight we’ll look at some of the “honorable mentions.” Great songs that didn’t make it into the sermon series and a great way to start thinking and talking about it all. Bring your listening ears and your willingness to see God how God shows up in all kinds of unexpected places
