Wesley this Week…

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you all have enjoyed the wonderful weather this week, I know I have! For those who haven’t found us yet, the Foundation building is located across from Mem Gym at the corner of Emmet Street and Lewis Mountain Road, and it is open from 9am – midnight every day (except home football game days). I can’t wait to see you around! Here’s what’s going on this week!

Sunday, September 16

11:00am – Worship at Wesley Memorial UMC

4:00pm – Support Council Ice Cream Social: Come on out to meet our Board members and Support Council, folks from the community and local churches who support our ministry and love students. All students are encouraged to come, even if you are not serving on a committee. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet and thank some of the people who help support Wesley!

5:00pm – Informal worship: Join us in the Foundation dining room for a worship service featuring our student-led music team and a message from our campus minister Deborah. Come as you are, dressed however you like!

6:30pm – IM Ultimate Frisbee: Meet in the Foundation dining room and we will head over to the park together for our first IM frisbee game of the season! No previous skills or experience required! Don’t forget your student ID.

Monday, September 17

1-3pm – Deborah’s drop-in office hours. Email if you’d like to meet at another time:  deborahATwesleyatuva.org

7:00pm – Graduate and Young Adult Fellowship: a small group for graduate students and other young adults. Led by Aaron Stiles (aws6z), it meets in the game room.

8:00pm – Methodists with Muscles: a sports themed devotional group that involves a short devotional followed by a sports activity. This week we will be playing basketball! Led by Patrick Ormond (pco8ec), it meets in the game room. Wear athletic clothes and bring your student ID.

Tuesday, September 18

Deborah is out of the office for sermon preparation and study.

8:00pm – Faces of Faith Group 1: a small group for first years designed to help the adjustment to college life. Led by Erica Ridgell (elr7ju) and Ryan LaRock (rsl4gp), it meets in the living room.

Wednesday, September 19

7:00pm – Free Verse: a small group open to everyone that will focus on a specific topic for a 3-week burst. This series will delve into our perceptions of God. If you would like to attend it is strongly encouraged that you go to all 3 meetings (9/12, 9/19, and 9/26) to ensure continuity. It’s a great opportunity to have in-depth discussions with your fellow Wesleyanos! Led by Matt Henderson (mch8tf), it meets in the game room.

8:00pm – Faces of Faith Group 2: a small group for first years designed to help the adjustment to college life. Led by Patrick Ormond (pco8ec) and Sarah Clifton (skc5np), it meets in the living room.
Thursday, September 20

6:00pm – Free home-cooked dinner in the Foundation dining room.

6:45pm – Forum: This week Forum will be a little longer than usual because we will be watching the film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Rev. Rocky Shoemaker from Wesley Memorial UMC will be leading us in a discussion of some of the topics raised by this film, which is about how a quirky boy whose father is killed in the 9/11 attacks brings his community together.

Sunday, September 23

6:00pm – Residential Community meeting

Upcoming events:

Friday, September 28th – United Ministries Service Project: We will be participating in a car wash from 3-5pm with other religious groups that are part of United Ministries.
