Hello Everyone,
I hope that you all have enjoyed the wonderful weather this week, I know I have! For those who haven’t found us yet, the Foundation building is located across from Mem Gym at the corner of Emmet Street and Lewis Mountain Road, and it is open from 9am – midnight every day (except home football game days). I can’t wait to see you around! Here’s what’s going on this week!
Sunday, September 23
11:00am – Worship at Wesley Memorial UMC.
5:00pm – Informal worship: Join us in the Foundation dining room for a worship service featuring our student-led music team and a message from our campus minister Deborah. Come as you are, dressed however you like!
6:00pm – Residential Community meeting
6:30pm – IM Ultimate Frisbee: Meet in the Foundation dining room and we will head over to the park together for IM frisbee! No previous skills or experience required! Don’t forget your student ID.
Monday, September 24
Deborah is out today for sermon prep and study.
7:00pm – Graduate and Young Adult Fellowship: a small group for graduate students and other young adults. Led by Aaron Stiles (aws6z), it meets in the game room.
8:00pm – Methodists with Muscles: a sports themed devotional group that involves a short devotional followed by a sports activity. Led by Patrick Ormond (pco8ec), it meets in the game room. Wear athletic clothes and bring your student ID.
Tuesday, September 25
Deborah at Board of Higher Education Meeting.
8:00pm – Faces of Faith Group 1: a small group for first years designed to help the adjustment to college life. Led by Erica Ridgell (elr7ju) and Ryan LaRock (rsl4gp), it meets in the living room.
Wednesday, September 26
7:00pm – Free Verse: a small group open to everyone that will focus on a specific topic for a 3-week burst. This series will delve into our perceptions of God. If you would like to attend it is strongly encouraged that you go to all 3 meetings (9/12, 9/19, and 9/26) to ensure continuity. It’s a great opportunity to have in-depth discussions with your fellow Wesleyanos! Led by Matt Henderson (mch8tf), it meets in the game room.
8:00pm – Faces of Faith Group 2: a small group for first years designed to help the adjustment to college life. Led by Patrick Ormond (pco8ec) and Sarah Clifton (skc5np), it meets in the living room.
Thursday, September 27
We will have reps from Wesley Seminary and Candler School of Theology on Grounds Thursday, September 27th, and they’ll both be joining us for dinner. The Candler rep will be visiting with interested students throughout the afternoon in the living room of the Wesley Foundation (4-6pm). For anyone wondering about seminary or graduate religious education, make plans to come chat. Friends are welcome – pass the word along.
6:00pm – Free home-cooked dinner in the Foundation dining room.
6:45pm – Forum: Our guest tonight is law school professor Doug Laycock and we’ll be looking at “Religious Liberty and the Culture Wars.” Here’s your appetizer for the evening, an article he recently published in the Cav Daily: http://www.
7:45pm – Leaders Group Meeting
Friday, September 28
2-5pm: Habitat for Humanity Cause Wash — meet at Wesley at 1:30 to ride over to the car wash together. We’ll be volunteering with people from other religious groups on Grounds so come on out to meet and mingle and help out a good organization.
Saturday, September 29
UVA vs. Louisiana Tech football game. Feel free to join Wesley people in Section 105! Also, Deborah will be attending this football game, so bring a camera to get proof for posterity!
Upcoming events:
Wednesday, October 3, 6-8pm – interfaith dinner at Hillel, with guest speaker Peter Ochs (a professor in religious studies). Professor Ochs will be kicking off some conversation with a talk about how faith motivates us to do public service.
